Client and architect in harmony

On completion of the building work, we were asked to assist Judy with the interior layouts and furnishings.

Whenever an extension is added to the rear of a building, there is always a risk of putting the original elements of the building into semi-darkness, this we avoided by running a rooflight almost continuously across the width of the building. The steel beams supporting the extension passed through the rooflight, enabling us to keep the rooflight in a single piece and secondly add some concealed lighting within the cladding of the beams.

Judy’s family are all very tall, being very family orientated and entertaining them on a regular basis, we discussed the height of the new dining table and agreed to slightly increase the height allowing for longer legs and enabling us to accommodate small storage drawers below. The table was oak, with a metal underframe, once again finished powder-coated blue/grey.

Judy’s original brief on the dining chairs was to create a queen’s chair for her and we would look to purchase the other dining chairs, but on designing the queen’s it became apparent the design easily adapted to a shorter height for all the remaining chairs, this was agreed, and all the chairs were manufactured to our design.

The credenza was a mixture of oak and a dark blue/grey lacquer, with both worktop, cupboards, drawers, display cases and cupboards with background lighting.

The kitchen was of better quality than off-the-shelf units and the layout and content to our design were.

Over the following years, we have continued to carry out further work for both the house and garden.

Customer Feedback

Ken Goodall designed and project-managed my new home extension from start to finish in 2012 to 2013.

Ken discussed all my lifestyle requirements in detail and incorporated those ingeniously into his beautifully conceived design. He made inventive suggestions about the eventual interior appearance of the new rooms and helped me, source craftsmen, to realize many of those ideas.

The final result was simply stunning, subsequent visitors have been completely “wowed” by the transformation of my home.

Ken recommended an excellent building team who implemented his plans with due care and consideration to my existing property. He was very willing to explain all aspects of the construction work to me which I found both interesting and reassuring.

Ken helpfully itemised the project’s payment schedule so that at each stage of the work it was clear to myself and the builder what monies had been paid and what remained owing.

It has been a real pleasure working with such a consummate professional. I would have no hesitation in recommending his services to others.
